SITAPEA

“Sitapea” (Shit Head) symbolized bad thoughts and negativity, everything we often carry within us but long to let go of.
It was, in a way, an altar where anyone could come and symbolically “forgive” their darker, more destructive thoughts.
In simple Estonian: a place to say goodbye to your “shitty thoughts.”

Being a “shithead” is like a mask or a role we may wear again and again throughout life, but one we do not have to carry with us forever.

The fire sculpture gave every festivalgoer the opportunity to reflect on their negative thoughts, emotions, and patterns;
and to leave them behind within the artwork, where the flames consumed them.

In the early hours of July 21st, the monument turned into pure flame, burning through the night in a ritual of release.

“Sitapea” reduced to ashes while we keep on dancing.

“SITAPEA” (Shit head) was a 12m high fire sculpture created for “I Land Sound” music festival at Illiku laid, Saaremaa (2024).

Created solely to be ceremonially burnt down with every shitty thought any festival visitor could freely put into it.

During the music festival the visitors could write down their shitty thoughts on waste wood material that were collected in shit-bins.
At the final hours of the festival after the sun was set, all the music was stopped. People gathered in a quiet circle around the towering figure. Anticipation hung in the air as everyone waited for the ceremony to begin.
Then loud sirens blared as shit-bins were brought to the center and fed to the SITAPEA to be devoured. With solemn ignition the 12m sculpture was set ablaze and people could celebrate releasing long held tention, rage,  geaf and frustration to the fire.
